CFB FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: USC @ COLORADO PREVIEW (10-25)
TWO OF WORST DEFENSES IN NATION MATCH UP FOR PAC-12 BATTLE IN BOULDER!
VEGAS ODDS: USC (-11 1/2) vs. *COLORADO BUFFALOES ~ TOTAL: (64)
GAME TIME TEMPS: Low 40’s
As we head to Week 8 and the last part of 2/3rd of the CFB season for both teams, the one thing that has been equally “unkind” to both is major injuries to star players. USC lost it’s starting QB in week 1 and then last week somehow managed to lose it’s #2 (Carr) and #3 RB (Stepp) after losing it’s #1 RB (Malepai) the week before. We always hear “Next Man Up” when goes go down, but they normally don’t come in with the same talent as the top 3 would (do). USC also got hit hard of late with big injuries on Defense early on, and in past week or two as well. Bad news is S-Hufanga, DE-Jackson, LB-McClain are all out tonight. Good news is they should return 3 on Defensive side of ball, getting CB’s Griffin and Stuart back and Nickel back Johnson.
Colorado has also been destroyed by injuries, as the Secondary has been decimated and superstar WR Shenault has been not himself at all, nursing a serious core muscle injury.
THERE IS NO “D” in T R O J A N S or B U F F A L O E S!
USC comes in with the #92 overall ranked Defense and Colorado with the #124 overall Defense in the nation. Colorado secondary is in shambles and they’ve allowed over 30 points in every game so far, and 41-45-35 it’s past 3 games. They are dead last in Pac-12 in Scoring Defense, Total yards, Passing yards allowed, 3rd down conversions (50%), sacks (11), and (9th) in Pac-12 in Rushing Defense. Their Pass D is actually second worst in the nation, and they are sadly dead last in the nation in tackles for Loss. USC is (0-3) on the Road, losing by average score of (29-22), but they did lose 2 of the 3 by only 3 points, with one in Overtime. They simply can’t stop the Run, allowing 189 rushing yards per game. Last week though they did get (7) sacks in home win over Arizona, but the Colorado veteran Off Line has only allowed (9) sacks on them all year.
USC OWNS COLORADO SINCE START OF PAC-12 PLAY!
USC has beaten Colorado all 13x they have played in Pac-12 games, and won by average of 20 points per game.
QB PLAY SHOULD DECIDE THIS GAME!
Colorado QB Montez has the tools to be one of best QB’s in nation, but he’s played poorly for most part all season. He’s been intercepted 8x and he’s taken a ton of bad chances along the way. In a way you can’t blame him, as he knows the Defense simply has little talent and only way Buffs win is likely in a shootout. USC QB Slovis has been decent so far, and has made some really big plays to ignite the Offense. Without his 3 top RB’s tonight, the gameplan will surely be lots of him passing the ball, as he has studs at the WR position and all of them will be mismatches for this injury riddled Buffs Secondary.
USC has won it’s last two meetings here in Boulder, Colorado, winning 38-24 and 27-24. They beat Arizona handily on scoreboard last week (41-14), but were out first downed (22-16). Colorado has been outscored (86-13) the past two weeks. Colorado has 2 wins in 4 home tries this season, with average home score 35-32. USC has lost all 3 games away from L.A., so it’s not a major shocking Upset if Colorado does win this game straight up. All money has poured in on Colorado, as they were a (+13 1/2) point Underdog most of week. Colorado has to kill clock here, and keep it’s exposed Secondary from being on field too long. They can do it as their top RB Fontenot (just shy 5 ypc) and also a nice (18) catches too must grind out first downs vs. a very shaky Trojans Defense. If he doesn’t, USC wide outs could have a gigantic game tonight. The other good news in the Buffs favor is their Kicker is (11-14) in FG’s and (22-22) on extra points. So many CFB Kickers are brutal, and when you are a struggling team, even scoring FG’s gives the team much needed momentum. I must say I am still always shocked when a CFB kicker makes a FG, from any range too. New Buffs HC Tucker has kept his kids from folding the tent as the chips are clearly down on them right now, so he needs a fast start tonight as Friday Night Home games have usually helped with crowd backing a not normal Saturday routine. Hey when you are one of the worst Defenses in all of CFB, you need all the breaks you can possibly get.
Enjoy the game tonight and may all your wagers this weekend be WINNING ones!
