GARY’S NFL WEEK 2 RECAP AND NUGGETS FOR WEEK 3!

GARY GREENE’S NFL WEEK 2 RECAP ARTICLE

OK folks we now have two games in for each NFL Team. Sadly the lead story isn’t how good a few teams are looking quickly out the gate, but more the numerous Heartbreaking Injuries to so many STAR players across the entire league. There were 23 Injuries to some of the most Elite players with many now OUT FOR THE SEASON. I can assure that although we will soon find some hidden Gems who take their places, for the most part most simply can’t be replaced and their teams will suffer dearly ahead from their loss.

We head to Week 3 with some teams who were expected to be a Playoff team now trying to avoid the Dreaded (0-3) start. You can count on one hand the teams that went (0-3) and still managed to grab a Playoff spot. The Eagles, Vikings, Texans and Falcons all could see their 2020 seasons go up in flames with another loss this week. The Vikings and Texans have simply looked terrible so far. The Eagles may simply be realizing QB Carson Wentz is just not “THE GUY”. The Falcons Offense has looked very good, it’s just the Defense has been really as bad as possible. Add the Lions and Denver to the (0-2) mix of teams thought to be on the upswing this season. The Lions are the worst Coached team so it’s not really a shock. The Broncos Injuries have likely cost them a Playoff chance. Since the Eagles really only have Dallas to contend with for an NFC East Title, they could go (8-8) and still maybe win the East. The Vikings are already 2 games back of two teams, the Packers and the Bears, and so they better find a way to win over a (2-0) Titans team this Sunday or it’s gonna be likely a hole too deep to dig from.

Let’s first look at some nice surprises so far. First the team I predicted to be the biggest turnaround team the Arizona Cards, are (2-0) and have a solid chance to start off (5-0). This team is vastly improved on the Defense and QB Murray now has all pieces he needs to score 28 each week. I don’t see this team faltering and they will go to the Playoffs. Next the Rams who have looked fantastic in the first two games and QB Goff, the guy most have claimed as a 100 Million dollar Bust, looking like he did two seasons ago. Next we have Da’ Bears, who badly needed a quick start to ease the negative “Mitch Trubisky’ talk. Seattle we always expect to be fine of Offense but wow QB Russell Wilson is now playing at his highest level ever. He is solidly in talk of best QB with the Chiefs Mahomes. The Ravens are just loaded across board and by far most well coached team in the NFL. Lamar Jackson is no fluke and he is as good a passer as he is a runner.

TEAMS DEFINITELY WHO DIDN’T EXPECT NOR WANT TO START (1-2):

Let’s look at Dallas first. Yes they got lucky to win last week and now start (0-2) with a road game AT SEATTLE this Sunday on the docket. The Offense is more than fine, but the Defense is really in shambles and it doesn’t look as if that unit will improve a whole lot of the film I’ve watched on them. Expect them in shootouts every week this year.

Next let’s go to San Fran who also (1-1) but now missing so many elite studs and even now a Backup QB on Sunday to point I wouldn’t be stunned if they get beat by the Giants. We always hear the ole “NEXT MAN UP” line but folks the drop off for all the stars they’ve lost in really impossible to come close to matching. For time being they will be just trying to hang in there and steal a few games until the starters out only temporarily return.

Last the Saints enter Sunday with a gigantic matchup against the Pack and Rodgers who simply are already hitting on all cylinders on Offense. The Saints just haven’t looked impressive, even in the win over Tampa in Week 1. QB Drew Brees looks like a shell of his old star self and the dinking and dunking pass attack has me wondering has Father Time finally paid him a visit.

This may be just Week 3 for all three of these supposed Playoff teams, but suffering another loss this week making them (1-2) will make the off the field nonsense from reporters become a big distraction much before they all expected it. I will not be shocked if all 3 lose this week. SF would’ve been fine without the many injuries.  But the NFL isn’t a kind league at times. They better pray “Next Man Up” is immediately ready for Prime Time action.

SAY IT AIN’T SO JOE (POSSIBLE 0-3 STARTS ONLY A FEW DAYS AWAY):

The Texans, Vikings, Eagles, Lions, Falcons and Broncos all will likely be the most Focused teams in the entire league on Sunday. I don’t think the Giants, Jets and Panthers really expected to be going Playoff hunting in 2020 so we shall bypass all 3 of them.

The Texans got hit with the toughest schedule out the gate. It will get easier down road. But this team is one of the 3 worst Coached teams and now they are coming to battle with a water pistol at WR spot instead of a real gun. The Defense led by JJ Watt has simply been torched the first two weeks. This team badly needs to win Sunday and a road win at Pittsburgh can completely change the bad vibes thus far and get things at least moving in a positive way. A third loss though and I say they never recover.

The Vikings being (0-2) is likely a shock to most. But I’ve know Kirk Cousins was never leading anyone to the Promised Land. Losing stud WR S. Diggs to the Bills is something they won’t recover from. And now the Defense is just brutal. The secondary can’t cover the kids in the neighborhood. Cousins is one of the guys where his Stats “FOOL” those who never watch film and know who he really is, a average at best QB who can’t read a Defense and gets most his yards the padded stat way after his team is behind and the opponent goes into a “Prevent Defensive” mode. They are at Home this week in a must win spot, but no longer is it much of an advantage to be playing at Home, crushing one of the better Home Field Advantages.

The Eagles are (0-2) and Wentz just looks like a average Joe QB and now with a banged up and poor Off Line in front of him he’s going to need to step his game up to the highest level he’s ever played. He’s Kirk Cousins in a green jersey rather than a Purple one. At times when lots time to throw against the bad teams he will shine. But when he faces a good Defense he will just keep struggling. Making matters worse when you bet the Vikings or the Eagles you always overpay in the line due to this factor both these guys are top end QB’s in the NFL. Just because your paid to be a top 10 QB doesn’t mean you are one. Heck Cousins has stolen more money than Bernie Madoff has. He just won’t ever due any Prison time for it.

The Falcons Coaching staff is really on it’s last bullet this week as an (0-3) start will surely see HC Quinn be fired along with a few other Coaches.

The Lions will at least get some relief as one of the better WR’s Kenny Golladay returns and folks this kid is a stud. The Lions may need to score 40 to beat the Cards at Home so his addition may be just enough to save the worst HC in the league, Matt Patricia’s job. The Lions Offense is actually elite, but wow the Defense (Patricia’s supposed genius) is just brutal and it will need shootout wins to turn this around right now.

Denver. Poor Denver. Look they were still a young team for most part, but losing stud WR Sutton is a gigantic loss. Making it worse is the two rookies at WR picked in first two rounds also being hurt simply leaves the cupboard bare. I wouldn’t look to take the Broncos right now at any price. I would’ve loved to see how this team played out without all these crushing injuries. 2020 has been tough on all of us but wow this poor team got hit by a train.

THESE TEAMS ARE (2-0) BUT I AM NOT SOLD AS OF YET:

PITT STEELERS: Yes 2-0 looks good, but they clearly are not even close just yet. In fact I’d say they have many major things to work on. In basketball we hear the “IRON WAS KIND” to a shot, well folks the schedule makers were extremely kind to the Steelers with it’s very generous schedule to start the 2020 season. This easier schedule gave Big Ben a chance to dust off the rust. If the Steelers faced two elite teams I’d say they’d be (0-2) right now. This team though one of best Coached teams so the proper adjustments will be made ahead to get them into a team to be reckoned with down road.

CHICAGO BEARS: So far I wouldn’t say this team looks great by any means, but if I am a Bears fan I am thrilled with (2-0) start. I only ever hear QB Trubisky get beat down, yet this Defense is so over rated the past few seasons. We shall learn a whole lot this Sunday about this over hyped Bears Defense facing a really loaded Falcons Offensive Unit. If they get take to the wood shed I will be coming hard at them like I have the past few seasons. So far I’ve seen nothing.

A TON RIDING ON HOW THESE TEAMS PERFORM THIS WEEK:

CLEVELAND BROWNS: They did hang on to beat the Bengals in week 2 to avoid an (0-2) start, but still this team is as hard to handicap as any I’ve ever tried over my 32 years. It’s hard to rush judgement on the Offense with another new HC and another new Game plan to learn. But a loss to my Redskins on Sunday and oh Nellie the beat down sticks will come out for Baker Mayfield. He needs a solid 4 quarter effort and he must avoid the Turnover bug. It’s time now for Mayfield to finally step his game to the next level.

THE WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM WILL BE ONCE AGAIN IN SEARCH OF A TOP QB THIS OFFSEASON:

I will first say I am harder on all my fav teams then anyone else as I am fully tuned into them all. I also normally like to give a young QB a few full seasons before making a grade on them. Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning sucked a few seasons before becoming great. Sadly for the Redskins QB D. Haskins great ain’t never coming. He’s got so many things wrong with his mechanics and he can’t read out a Defense and I can already see there isn’t a whole lot of upside. Passing a ball to an open wide out 10 yards should never ever have the result of falling 5 yards short almost half the time. If you don’t have that down still you simply don’t have the tools of greatness. The Redskins Offense may be the worst in the league. Everyone calls HC Ron Rivera an elite Head Coach. He’s not. In fact he’s one of the worst. Last week down only 2 scores with 4 mins still to play he didn’t even use one of his 3 Time Outs. Now unless he’s sneakily tanking games for a top draft pick (which is highly possible), he clearly is proving why Carolina lost so many games his past few season’s there. I see nothing special about anything he calls, and the Special Teams, once again for the millionth season in a row, is BRUTAL. How many times is the returner going to return a kick off to the 12 yard line before they stop trying to return them. I mean putting a young and very below average QB at the 12 yard line over and over is not a recipe for success. Disclaimer: Another 10 bad HC’s keep allowing this same stupidity so I want to be sure to add this.

BREAKING NEWS: “THERE IS NO LONGER ANY HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE”:

If I hear one more moron Announcer talk about a team playing at HOME like they have some real advantage for it I may cut my wrists. Road teams QB’s could never scream at play call changes at he Line of Scrimmage with such ease even my near Deaf Mother can hear the call changes with clarity like that of a top hearing aid. Home noise doesn’t just juice the team’s energy, but it also hinders the Road teams QB’s making changes at the line. You still though 90% of the time pay the extra Premium in the Pointspread you are betting into.

SCORING NOW AT ALL TIME HIGH AVERAGE – WHY IS THIS?

Thru 2 weeks the average NFL total score is just over 50 points per game. Is this due to better talent on Offenses? NO. NO. NO.  It’s because the league KNEW that widespread “KNEELING” would lose a ton of fans. And they were dead right as the Ratings are simply brutal due to many fans no longer watching. So how could the League Heads keep the fans still tuning it? More scoring. How do you increase scoring easily? Well you have the Refs call less Offensive Holding penalties. These penalties of 10 yards are drive killers. They lead to more Punts and more longer field drives. A team could be actually moving ball well, grab 3 first downs, and then one holding call on an Offensive Lineman (they hold EVERY PLAY) and now the drive ends as getting 20 yards instead of just 10 to move the chains is a DRIVE KILLER over half the time. So chalk one up to the biggest Jokes in Sports (the NFL League Office Heads) for at least knowing what to do to keep the loyal fans who haven’t ditched the league over Kneeling.

“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON OUT THERE?” (Props to Vince Lombardi)

1). Eagles QB Wentz: Last year he threw 2 Int’s in a game twice. This season in 2 games he’s done it TWICE.

2). BROWNS WR ODELL BECKHAM:  Hasn’t had a 100 yard rec game since last October 13th.

3). COLTS WR T.Y. HILTON:  Hasn’t had a 100 yard rec game in 13 straight games and no TD’s in 7 straight games.  WTF? (Gary thoughts): Hilton seems much slower this year and burst off ball on tape to me is startling.

4). CAROLINA DEFENSE: Has ZEROOOO (DONUT) Sacks so far this season.

5). BENGALS TOP WR A.J. GREEN: Was targeted 13x last week and ended with only 3 catches. I watched each route and he seems slow and is not at all in sync yet with QB Burrow. Since he’s off an Injury season and not much time to mesh with a new QB I am not yet alarmed. It takes time to get back into Football shape off a year off and 2020 didn’t help speed that process.

6). COWBOYS WR’S TRIO OF COOPER/LAMB AND GALLUP:  ZERO (DONUT) TOUCHDOWNS SO FAR – WTF? I can ASSURE you this will change soon as too much talent with these 3 guys.

7). SEATTLE QB RUSSELL WILSON: Has only rushed it 2x (TWO TIMES…THIS IS NOT A TYPO). I watched the tapes closer and he’s staying put in his pass reads more than I’ve ever seen. What’s funny is how AZ QB Murray is now the new Wilson as he is off to races running ball quickly if pass calls break down. The thing that is strange is Seattle TE’s used to thrive in Offense catching balls from Wilson. So far they have a total of only 8 catches for 50 total pass rec yards. It’s clear Seattle new Offensive game plan is look for the BIG PLAY. And with Metcalf and Lockett as your deep weapons, not a bad plan of attack.  PS- one of my most under rated players in the entire NFL is WR T. Lockett. Guy is money. So far in 16 targets he has 15 catches. Might be the least talked about top QB-WR Combos in NFL.

8). MINNY VIKINGS:  Traded one of elite Pass catchers in League (S. Diggs) for really nothing of great value and lost both games so far by double digits. WTF was this team thinking trading Diggs? Well the happiest man on earth (ME) to watch the Vikings and it’s most over rated QB of all time Cousins (per his monetary gains from contracts so far) getting smashed.

X’S vs. O’s TO WATCH CLOSELY ON SUNDAY:

PITT STEELERS DEFENSE:  BLITZ MACHINE (64% SO FAR ON ALL PLAYS IN 20202) vs. HOUSTON QB WATSON – (2ND WORST vs. BLITZ in 2020)

M.A.S.H WARD:

1). NY JETS OFFENSIVE LINE: Now the daunting task of trying to slow down Colts Def studs Buckner, Houston and Leonard. ADV: INDY (by 100 miles)

2). DALLAS DEFENSE: Already crushed with key LB injuries, now they lose promising youngster Awuzie too. I will say this covering young WR Metcalf will be a tough task for Dallas very weak Secondary as I was super impressed with how Metcalf dominated Patriots superstar CB Gilmore last week. Metcalf so far one of most improved route runners in the NFL.

3). SEATTLE DEFENSE: With an already weak Pass Rush (3 sacks but two on J. Adams blitzes) now they lose B. Irvin (a true Beast) and promising Secondary star M. Blair and forced to face the talented Cowboys trio of wide outs. I must say I was stunned they didn’t re-sign Jadv Clowney and so far their only 17% pass pressure rate is looking like a long season in store for them vs. Pass vs. Quality opposing QB’s.

4). CINCI BENGALS: Their two top DT’s are OUT making for likely a lot of extra time for Eagles Wentz to break out if the run game can start to click.

SOME MONEY MAKERS TO WATCH (VIA POINT SPREAD BETS)

1). DALLAS:  (8-2) ATS last 10 when the Underdog. Clearly the Pressure of being favored does affect some teams and Dallas is one of them. I don’t like the new HC McCarthy mix at all but he’s blessed with some fantastic Offensive talent to overcome his horrible in game management.

2). CINCI BENGALS:  Can you say (13-0) ATS all time vs. the Eagles. Folks this is very, very hard to do.

3). PATRIOTS UNDER HC BILL THE HOODIE:  (51-26) ATS off a straight up loss.

4). VIKINGS HC MIKE ZIMMER:  (7-3) ATS when being a rare Underdog over the years at Home.

LESS IS MORE CHAMPION

1). TENNY TITANS QB RYAN TANNEYHILL:  He’s passed for over 300 yards only 3x since being made the starter. This guy is one of the greatest turnarounds I’ve ever seen. It PROVES how huge good coaching is compared to bad coaching for so many players.

SO YOU ARE SAYING WE STILL GOT A CHANCE?

1). HOUSTON TEXANS: For the 3rd time the past 6 seasons this team has started (0-2). Although that isn’t a record any team wants, give credit to the Texans as the first two times it happened they still made the Playoffs.

CAM IS BACK TO HIS OLD SELF – NOW CAN HE STAY HEALTHY?

For first time in years I am watching the old Cam Newton run the ball and hit the holes hard with no fear. I put in right up there with Lamar Jackson and now K. Murray as dangerous as they come and although I despise the Patriots, I don’t wish players to get hurt. Here’s hoping Cam stays healthy the entire season.

YOU WORRIED? I SURELY AM……

1). SAINTS QB DREW BREES:  I don’t know if I am more shocked by the ultra conservative passing game being called by HC Payton or the actual play of Brees. I put a little blame on both as I don’t at all get the dink and dunk gameplan as Brees just doesn’t seem comfortable at all in that type of game plan. Having no stud Mike Thomas tells me this may be the week the Saints go rush heavy to stud RB A. Kamara rather than try to engage in a shootout with Packers A. Rodgers.

THE WASHINGTON FOOTBALLERS CLUB (AKA REDSKINS) OFFENSE IS WORSE THAN I EVER IMAGINED:

QB Haskins has not improved one bit and their is no elite RB to help carry some of the load. Now the OL is back to toast with Scherff was the one guy my boys could always count on. Now he’s out and this OL is in a world of hurt. It’s very likely to get Ugly here soon for the “W” helmet boys on Offense. Oh the “W” special teams are once again really, really, really bad. It’s rare you want your fav teams Defense on the field instead of the Offense. This is now that time for Redskins fans. (SIGH).

GARY GREENE’S BOTTOM FIVE IN THE NFL WHEN SEASON ENDS IT WILL BE IN THIS ORDER:

5). NY GIANTS

4). JAX JAGUARS

3). WASHINGTON REDSKINS

2). CAROLINA PANTHERS

1). TREVOR LAWRENCE SWEEPSTAKES WINNER:  NY JETS

Have a great Week 3 ahead and may all your Wagers be WINNING ones!

God Bless,

Gary Greene
