BEARS @ LIONS PREVIEW – TURKEY DAY!

CAN LIONS BREAK OUT OF LOSING FUNK WITH WIN OVER BEARS TEAM STRUGGLING ON OFFENSE?

VEGAS ODDS:  CHICAGO BEARS (-4) @ DETROIT LIONS  ~  TOTAL: (37)

BEARS OFFENSE — OVERALL (29), RUSH (29), PASS (30).

BEARS DEFENSE — OVERALL (4), RUSH (8), PASS (9).

LIONS OFFENSE — OVERALL (9), RUSH (18), PASS (6).

LIONS DEFENSE — OVERALL (29), RUSH (24), PASS (30).

FIRST MEETING 3 WEEKS AGO:  BEARS Won 20-13.   BEARS also won at Detroit last Turkey Day 23-16.

KEY QB INJURIES: Bears M. Trubisky (Hip Pointer) expected to start. Lions Starter M. Stafford (OUT). Backup J. Driskel (hamstring likely to miss). 3rd QB D. Blough (has never played a snap in NFL).

KEY BEARS WIDEOUTS INJURIES:  Speedy WR Gabriel and TE Braunecker both “OUT” with concussions.

OK folks, let’s face facts here: both teams have numerous troubles and the Lions losing 7 of last 8 has put them out of Playoff picture. The Bears (5-6) are on life support and likely need to win out to make the Playoffs. If you have read my weekly articles, the Lions Defense may say 29th overall in the rankings, but to me they are the worst Defense in the NFL and one of the worst Pass Coverage Defense’s I’ve maybe ever seen. The Lions D has held only one team under 100 yards rushing all season (GOOD NEWS for Lions Fans: Bears gained over 100 just twice). They did actually play the Bears well in the first meeting 3 weeks ago, but a meltdown for a 5 min plus span allowing the Bears 3 TD’s (20 points and only points the Bears score the entire other parts of that game) and the Bears rush attack has 3 runs over 20 yards all year. Lamar Jackson gets that in one game.

The Bears have struggled in every phase on Offense, including the Head Coach/Play caller Nagy who has been atrocious this year and having one of worst Offensive Lines and no running game, terrible overall wide receiving corps and a QB who is gun shy and having just a horrific season (Mitch Trubisky). The Defense when needing to make a huge stop often hasn’t been able to do it. The Bears D though has allowed 20 points or less 8x. They have gone (5-3) in those 8 games, and with the Bears Offense struggling mightily for most part all season to put points on the scoreboard, the margin of points the D can allow is not over 20 points.

Detroit with Matt Stafford at QB has been very good, even with the team rushing for only 2 rush TD’s all year, they have moved ball with ease. Problem is Stafford is out, backup Driskel (4 TD’S/4 Int’s) is likely out, causing the 3rd string QB David Blough into starting this game. He’s never played a snap in the NFL and it’s not really the best Defense (Bears) to face in your first ever game as an NFL QB.

For those who like betting quarters? The Bears have been in low scoring first quarters with 24 points of their own and allowing only 18 first quarter points.

The Bears have played 3 OVERS and 8 UNDERS this year. Lions have played 7 OVERS and 4 UNDERS. The Bears are just (3-8) ATS, the Lions are just (4-7) ATS.

Bears HC Nagy vs. Lions HC Patricia is (3-0) straight up and Nagy is (7-2) straight up in Division games, going (8-1) ATS in those 9 since taking over as HC.

The Bears have scored a TD on their first drive of the game after Halftime their past 5 straight games.

The Bears won on Thanksgiving Day game 3 years ago vs. Packers too.

Last week Bears QB had his best passing game, with 278 passing yards and 3 TD’s. If he can’t duplicate those stats vs. this horrific Lions D (especially secondary), this might be his final start with the Bears.

Luckily this game kicks off earliest of the 3 games being played on Turkey Day, and most of you hopefully haven’t eaten yet before watching this ugly contest. These ugly games usually get decided by turnovers and we should see a few with Trubisky a gift giver and new Lions QB Blough, almost certain to turn it over a few times in his first start as well. The entire world is betting the Bears here, and now the number is -4 and likely to even go higher. Hard to be a team losing like Lions (7 of last 8) and starting a Rookie QB, not just for his first ever start, but his first action in the NFL, ever.

If you bet this horrible game and you lose with either crappy side, be sure to blame yourself over and over for betting this game when two better games and a decent CFB game all kick off later on Turkey Day.
