APPALACHIAN STATE vs. UL-LAFAYETTE PREVIEW – WED. OCT 9, 2019

APPALACHIAN STATE TRAVELS TO CAJUN STADIUM TO BATTLE UL-LAFAYETTE IN BATTLE OF KINGPINS OF SUN BELT!

VEGAS BETTING ODDS:  LA-LAFAYETTE (-1 1/2 to -2 1/2) vs. APPALACHIAN STATE  ~  TOTAL: (69 1/2 or 70)

Well folks the two Titans in the Sun Belt Conference meet up on a rare Wed. Night CFB game and wow should this game be one of the better games we catch on a mid-week game all year.

These two teams are loaded with tons of talent, with most of the upper tier talent being found on both team’s Offenses. App State is one of 16 unbeaten teams left in the nation and U-LL is 4-1.  These two teams met last year, not once, but twice, playing a regular season game in October and then facing off in the Sun Belt Title Game. The App State Mountaineers won both games, (27-17) and (30-19) in the Title game. Right now U-LL is (5-0) ATS, and App State is (3-1) ATS. So both making bettors big money to their bankrolls so far. Tonight something has to give though, and you can be sure if you like lots of action, big plays and maybe even a Special Teams blocked kick, this game has it all.

App State comes in rested off a “Bye” week and off a 56 point Offensive Outburst vs. Coastal Carolina. They avg. 13. 7 points per game in the first quarter, so they are definitely well coached and fully prepared with a solid game plan right off the first play each week. They do though allow 9 points per every first quarter, so like I said, this game could be fast and furious right out the gate tonight.

This years App State Defense has shown some kinks as they are nowhere close to how great they’ve been the past few years. In fact they have allowed (10) TD passes already, after allowing only (8) all of last year. Meanwhile the ULL Defense is allowing only 21 points per game and allowing only 158 yards rushing per game. They also have 12 sacks so they are strong up front and could be first team yet to slow down the Mountaineers Offense.

Both teams have really outstanding QB’s and because of that, both teams will always be able to score points. Last year App State averaged a very solid 37 points per game. This season they’ve taken it up a notch or two as they are averaging 47 points per game. QB Thomas is completing (72%) of his passes and (802 yards passing), with 7 TD passes and only 2 interceptions. ULL QB Levi Lewis leads the Cajuns attack that is averaging 314 rushing yards per game. Lewis is no slouch passing the ball either, completing (65%).

Both teams have nice stables of RB’s too with App State lead back Evans averaging 7 yards per carry and already 9 TD’s in just 4 games. The Cajuns two top RB’s T. Ragas (9.79) avg. yards per carry and E. Mitchell (9) TD’s will go against the one strong part of the App State Defense, it’s Def Line. So something may have to give and if it’s ULL slowed with it’s rush attack, they will still be O.K. as they can pass and should be able to pass vs. an average Back 7 of the Mountaineers.

KEY TO THIS GAME:

Look it’s no secret both teams are loaded on Offense and so they likely offset each other. What’s next key factor: There are always 2. First is Turnovers and in game like this what part of field is that turnover. Winning team likely to win that battle tonight as just one turnover could end up costly in a back and forth scoring type contest. The other key factor is always special teams. In CFB, it’s always key to see how both teams Kickers are. The ULL Kicker is awful, hitting only 2 of 6 FG tries, with longest coming from only 27 yards out. App State has a huge edge in Overall Specials teams tonight, blocking 3 kicks already, and averaging 31 yards per kickoff return and a very solid 18 yard punt return average.

KEY BETTING TREND:

APP STATE/ LA LAFAYETTE:  5 of the last 6 meetings have gone “UNDER” the posted Total.

God Bless,
